Is stock photography worth the trouble?

    I have ZERO experience with stock agencies but based on what little I know the biggest benefit for the photographer is that the agencies do the marketing/sales/customer acquisition.

    If you were to try and do that on your own, it would take a long time to break even (not to mention the number of images you'd need to develop a solid inventory).

    Do the agencies pay per use, or is it an initial payment and no royalties thereafter?
