Pricing for Personal Use Downloads
Hello Everyone,
I'm looking for opinions and/or pricing recommendations for the Personal Use Downloads. I'm all for allowing people to download a "small" 500 pixel image for free as it will hopefully help promote my page, etc. However, I'm of the opinion that the "medium" and "large" options at 1,500 and 2,500 pixels respectfully should have some price point. I look at these options as a way customers can essentially purchase on of my images to use for their desktop or as a screensaver. Personally, I think having an amazing image for your desktop forever is worth say, $10 - $20. I'd love to hear what you think and/or what you charge for these options if you do.
Thanks!
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
I would make them about 20-30% of your Royalty Free license prices.
A photographer I know had problems with "Personal Use" licenses, here's what he said:
"Some people were taking advantage of my “friends and family” personal-use rate and downloading my photos for commercial gain. Some were artists who would use the photos to reproduce the images in different mediums and then sell the original, or make multiple prints. Others claimed ownership of the images to support their website and make ads for photo workshops and seminars."

So I also recommend you track your "personal use" sales and see how those images are being used and whether it affects your other sales.
