In my experience the associate function has never worked completely correctly, in any version of the plugin, including the current version.  It does not detect and associate many images in existing online galleries, instead showing a gallery existing but without images.  If you re upload those images, you then have duplicates.  I have given up trying to use it in that fashion, only able to use it for newly published images.

Thanks, David. At this point I'm also just using it for new photos. (It would be nice if PS support would just admit that it doesn't work, rather than act like I'm the first one to report this issue.)

I agree. I never got the associate function to work. In fact it caused a massive headache when I first tried to use it with my admittedly large library. I eventually got around it by starting over and re-uploading a subsection of my LR library and in general it works well for keeping track of changes to images as long as they have been uploaded via the Plugin from the start.

Having said that, it used to distinguish well between metadata only changes as opposed to processing changes but now this seems erratic and mostly it takes just as long to update the metadata as it does to update the processed changes.

I am still on V1 and should probably be brave and update to V2 but I'm nervous that updating may break some existing sync links which would be disastrous as, despite its flaws, it is invaluable to my business. See the comments below the Sept 17 announcement to see why I'm nervous...

I suspect they have abandoned any attempt to improve this plugin; I had similar responses back in 2017...sympathetic replies but no resolution.
